The Magpies take on the reigning champions at St. James’ Park, with the 38-year-old tasked with keeping order as Rafa Benítez’s side go in search of back-to-back league victories.
Wigan-born Tierney was promoted to the Select Group of Referees in 2016, having taken charge of his first top flight fixture two years earlier.
Tuesday’s game will be the third time Tierney has refereed a Newcastle fixture this term, with both of his previous appointments coming at St. James’ Park. He oversaw the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in August 2018 and the 3-0 loss to West Ham last month.
In total, Tierney - who was promoted to the FIFA list of referees last year - has officiated in 20 games across the Premier League, Championship, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Checkatrade Trophy so far this season, handing out 68 yellow cards and just one red.
He will be assisted by Eddie Smart and Simon Bennett, while Lee Mason will be the fourth official.
