Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has made one change to his starting 11 for the Magpies' first game of 2023, away at Arsenal, as Callum Wilson replaces Chris Wood in attack.

The Magpies make the trip to the capital this evening (kick-off 7.45pm GMT) aiming for a first away win against Arsenal, who sit nine points ahead of United at the top of the Premier League table, since November 2010.

Wilson missed out on Newcastle's 3-0 Boxing Day victory at Leicester City before appearing from the bench in a goalless home draw against Leeds United but will lead the line at the Emirates Stadium, with Wood dropping to the bench.

Nick Pope, targeting a consecutive fourth Premier League clean sheet, begins between the sticks behind a four-man backline, with Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn occupying the respective flanks while Sven Botman and Fabian Schär continue their impressive partnership at the heart of defence.

Bruno Guimarães, who was on target in Newcastle's  2-0 win against Arsenal at St. James' Park in May - starts in the middle of the park alongside Joe Willock, who began his career at the Gunners, as well as Sean Longstaff who makes his 11th consecutive Premier League start.

Miguel Almirón, who has netted five goals in his last five away league matches, and Joelinton - making his 100th Premier League start this evening - will aim to provide attacking support for Wilson.

There is a place on the bench for goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka, who was recalled from his season-long loan spell at Manchester United on Sunday, while Howe has attacking options to deploy from the substitutes' bench, including Allan Saint-Maximin, Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie and Elliot Anderson.

Jamaal Lascelles, Javier Manquillo and Jamal Lewis are also available as defensive reinforcements.

Substitutes: Martin Dúbravka, Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie, Elliot Anderson, Jacob Murphy, Allan Saint-Maximin, Chris Wood.
