Sean Longstaff comes into Newcastle’s starting line-up at Fulham as head coach Steve Bruce makes just a single change to the side who saw off Sheffield United in midweek.

Longstaff – a second-half substitute against the Blades at St. James’ Park – replaces Joelinton, who misses out as a result of the knock he picked up the same night. It means the Magpies will kick off at Craven Cottage without a recognised forward on the pitch.

Instead, Miguel Almirón and Allan Saint-Maximin – himself something of a doubt coming into the weekend – will lead the visitors’ attacking charge, though in-form midfielder Joe Willock starts again as well. The 21-year-old’s midweek winner went down as the seventh goal of his hugely impressive loan spell on Tyneside.

Willock and Longstaff join stand-in skipper Jonjo Shelvey in midfield, with Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie again operating as wing backs and Emil Krafth, Federico Fernández and Paul Dummett making up a three-man backline. Martin Dúbravka has been passed fit to start in goal.

Strikers Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle both make the bench as the Magpies go looking for a repeat of their 4-0 success at Craven Cottage on the last day of the 2018/19 campaign.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, Jacob Murphy, Emil Krafth, Federico Fernández, Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie, Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock, Miguel Almirón, Allan Saint-Maximin.

Substitutes: Mark Gillespie, Javier Manquillo, Fabian Schär, Ciaran Clark, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick, Matty Longstaff, Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle.
