The Magpies line up against Pep Guardiola’s men at the Etihad Stadium looking to make amends for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat at Brentford, and head coach Steve Bruce has opted to hand 20-year-old midfielder Longstaff his first start of the campaign.
Elsewhere, defender Fabian Schär returns to the starting 11, while Joelinton will lead the line, with leading goalscorer Callum Wilson named among the substitutes.
Karl Darlow continues to deputise for the injured Martin Dúbravka in goal, with DeAndre Yedlin, Schär, Federico Fernández, Ciaran Clark and Matt Ritchie forming a five-man defensive line.
Longstaff will partner Isaac Hayden in central midfield, with Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almirón either side of the duo.
And Joelinton is tasked with spearheading Newcastle’s attack against City, though Bruce has plenty of firepower on the bench in the shape of Wilson, Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll.
Jamal Lewis, Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo provide defensive reinforcements, while Sean Longstaff and Elliot Anderson are also named. Mark Gillespie is the backup goalkeeping option.
