Tino Livramento starts for Newcastle United against former club Southampton in the Magpies' opening Premier League fixture of the 2024/25 season (kick-off 3pm BST).

The right-back, who joined United from the Saints last season, has been handed a start against the newly-promoted outfit as Eddie Howe's side begin kick off their English top-flight campaign at St. James' Park.

Nick Pope makes his first Premier League outing at St. James' Park since dislocating his shoulder during the Magpies' 1-0 win against Manchester United in December and will start behind a four-man defence, with Fabian Schär and Dan Burn situated in the heart of United's backline while Livramento and Lewis Hall occupy the respective defensive flanks.

Bruno Guimarães, who scored on his first Magpies start in a 2-1 away win against Southampton during the 2021/22 campaign, has been handed the captain's armband this afternoon and will feature in the middle of the park alongside Sean Longstaff, who scored a brace in Newcastle's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg win against Southampton in January 2023, and fellow Brazilian Joelinton.

Jacob Murphy, who scored five goals in as many pre-season fixtures this term, and Anthony Gordon will aim to provide attacking support for Swedish frontman Alexander Isak, who netted a brace in the Magpies' 5-1 win against Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the 2023/24 campaign.

William Osula, who joined the Magpies from Sheffield United last week, has been named on the bench, with the Danish striker aiming to make his competitive debut for United this afternoon along with Lloyd Kelly, who arrived at St. James' Park in June following his departure from AFC Bournemouth.

Furthermore, Howe has a number of options to deploy from the bench if needed, with Joe Willock, who scored on his Magpies debut in a 3-2 home win against Southampton during the 2020/21 season, as well as Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almirón, Harvey Barnes and Emil Krafth all named as substitutes.

Matt Targett has been named in a United matchday squad for the first time since November after sustaining a hamstring injury during the Magpies' 3-0 Carabao Cup win against Manchester United.

Martin Dúbravka is the substitute goalkeeper.
