The Brazilian had to make do with an appearance from the bench as Steve Bruce’s side won 2-0 at Sheffield United on Thursday night, but will play from the off against the Saints at the expense of Andy Carroll, who started in his place at Bramall Lane.
Otherwise, the Magpies are unchanged from the side who picked up all three points in South Yorkshire, with Allan Saint-Maximin fit enough to start after an ankle scare. The wide-man struck for the first time as a Newcastle player against the Blades but has yet to net at St. James’ Park.
Javier Manquillo again starts at right wing back, joining Federico Fernández, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems in the Magpies’ five-man backline. Martin Dúbravka continues in goal.
In-form Jonjo Shelvey – United’s captain once more – plays next to Isaac Hayden in the engine room, with Miguel Almirón on the opposite flank to Saint-Maximin.
On the bench, there is again room for only one Longstaff brother, with Sean making the squad ahead of Matty.
