Federico Fernández has been handed his first Premier League start of the season as Newcastle United welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to St. James’ Park this afternoon.

With Fabian Schär missing out through injury, the Argentine slots in alongside Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles in the heart of the Magpies’ backline, taking over the Swiss’ position on the right-hand side of central defence.

Otherwise, United are unchanged from the side who lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge a week ago. DeAndre Yedlin and Jetro Willems remain Steve Bruce’s wing backs of choice, with the Longstaff brothers – Sean and Matty – again starting together in central midfield.

Joelinton continues up front on his own, with Miguel Almirón and Allan Saint-Maximin providing support.

With Andy Carroll also sidelined, Yoshinori Muto returns to the Magpies’ substitutes’ bench. There, he joins fellow forward Dwight Gayle, as well as Karl Darlow, Emil Krafth, Paul Dummett, Jonjo Shelvey and Christian Atsu.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, DeAndre Yedlin, Federico Fernández, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Jetro Willems, Sean Longstaff, Matty Longstaff, Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almirón, Joelinton.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Emil Krafth, Paul Dummett, Jonjo Shelvey, Christian Atsu, Yoshinori Muto, Dwight Gayle.
