The Senegalese midfielder replaces the suspended Isaac Hayden, who picked up a fifth booking of the campaign against Manchester United a week ago.

Elsewhere, the Magpies are unchanged, although Mikel Merino – who has not appeared since mid-October – has been named as a substitute.

Rob Elliot continues between the sticks, with Javier Manquillo, Ciaran Clark, Florian Lejeune and DeAndre Yedlin making up the back four, left to right.

Diamé partners captain Jonjo Shelvey in the engine room, with Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie again deployed out wide.

And, for the third game in succession, Rafa Benítez has opted to play two forwards, with Dwight Gayle and Joselu leading the Magpies’ attack.

Newcastle United: Rob Elliot, DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune, Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo, Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diamé, Jonjo Shelvey, Jacob Murphy, Dwight Gayle, Joselu.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Jesus Gámez, Chancel Mbemba, Mikel Merino, Rolando Aarons, Ayoze Pérez, Aleksandar Mitrović.
