Karl Darlow is one of seven players brought back into Newcastle United’s starting line-up for the Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Manager Rafa Benítez has opted to make a raft of changes to his side following Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, and goalkeeper Darlow is among them, returning between the sticks in place of the injured Rob Elliot.

There are also recalls for Ciaran Clark, Isaac Hayden, Mikel Merino, Christian Atsu, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle, who come in for Chancel Mbemba, Javier Manquillo, Mohamed Diamé, Jonjo Shelvey, Jacob Murphy and Rolando Aarons.

DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles, Clark and Paul Dummett make up a back four in front of Darlow, with Ritchie and Atsu on the flanks in midfield and Hayden partnering Merino in the middle.

And Gayle, who made a substitute appearance in midweek, returns to lead the line alongside Joselu.

Freddie Woodman is named on the bench, along with Manquillo, Mbemba and Diamé.

And Shelvey, Murphy and Ayoze Pérez complete the list of options available for Benítez to introduce as the game goes on.

Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Javier Manquillo, Chancel Mbemba, Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diamé, Jacob Murphy, Ayoze Pérez.
