As expected, Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce has made a raft of changes for this evening’s Third Round Carabao Cup clash at Morecambe.

Only skipper Jamaal Lascelles and midfielder Isaac Hayden have been retained from the side who lost 3-0 to Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Lascelles sat out United’s first game in the Carabao Cup this term – against Blackburn a week ago – but the other four players who made up the Magpies’ back five that night all start against the League Two outfit; Lascelles is joined by Ciaran Clark in central defence, with Emil Krafth and DeAndre Yedlin out wide. Mark Gillespie again starts in goal.

Hayden, meanwhile, plays alongside Sean Longstaff in central midfield. Matt Ritchie and Jacob Murphy start on the flanks, with Miguel Almirón providing support to Joelinton up top.

Karl Darlow aside, Newcastle’s bench is made up entirely of midfielders and forwards; recent acquisitions Jeff Hendrick, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson are all among them.
