News. Taylor takes charge of Terriers test

Anthony Taylor will referee Newcastle United’s game at Huddersfield Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Magpies face David Wagner’s men at the John Smith’s Stadium at the weekend, with Wythenshawe whistler Taylor given the task of officiating as United look to bounce back following their late defeat to Wolves on Sunday.

The 40-year-old, who was promoted to the select group of referees in 2010, has refereed a League Cup final and an FA Cup final during his 16-year career.

So far this season, Taylor – who was in the middle when United beat Burnley 2-1 last month – has taken charge of 20 games in the Premier League, Champions League and internationals, the most recent being West Ham’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday. He has shown a total of 65 yellow cards this term, but is yet to issue a red.

Taylor, who was also tasked with overseeing Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat at Manchester United earlier this campaign as well as last month's win at Burnley, will be assisted by Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn at Huddersfield, while Martin Atkinson will be the fourth official.
