Growing up a Newcastle United fan, Rachel Furness had one big dream: to play at St. James' Park. And on Saturday against AC Milan Women, that could become a reality.

Furness rejoined United this summer after 14 years away, spending time with clubs such as Bristol City Women, Tottenham Hotspur Women and Liverpool Women, and the midfielder is itching to play at the famous stadium for the first time.

The Northern Ireland international has admitted that coming back to Newcastle - not just as a player, but also as a fan - is what dreams are made of.

"It's hard to describe the feeling," Furness told newcastleunited.com. "For me, growing up as a little girl I always dreamt of playing at St. James' Park.

"It's so difficult to put into words, but whether I play 30 seconds, one minute or whatever it may be, to just be involved in Saturday's game is a dream and I'll soak up every minute."

United's game against Milan will be the first time they've faced European opposition since coming under the umbrella of Newcastle United.

Milan finished sixth in their domestic league last season and will prove to be a tough test for the Lasses, which is exactly what Furness wants in pre-season.

"The fact that teams like AC Milan want to play us shows how far we've progressed and the ambition of the football club," she said.

"I know a few players who play for them and they're a fantastic opposition. You want to test yourself against the best and challenge each other even more."

This will be the Lasses' sixth outing at St James' Park and the Magpies have won each of their previous games there.

However, having never faced a side outside of England on the hallowed turf, Furness knows every player must be at their best on Saturday.

"We've got a squad of competitors, that's something you can tell straight away," Furness added.

"This is a team who want to win, and we'll be doing everything we can to maintain that 100 per cent win record."

A relatively new-look United side will be on display for fans this weekend, with Furness and fellow summer signing Demi Stokes having already spoken about having friends and family watching on from the stands now they’re back in the North East.

"I've spoken to Demi about it already," the Northern Ireland midfielder admitted.

"The displays that Wor Flags put up and I've seen the highlights of when the girls have played there previously, it's something I'm itching to be part of.

"I’ve got a lot of friends and ex-teammates from Newcastle who are buzzing for Saturday, so it'll be great to have them and my family being able to attend."

Newcastle United Women will host AC Milan Women in the highly anticipated Sela Weekender at St. James' Park on Saturday, 10th August. Tickets for the weekend - which also include Newcastle United's men's team games against Stade Brestois and La Liga outfit Girona - are on sale here.
