Fit-again midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is the star of Newcastle United’s official matchday programme, UNITED, for Saturday’s visit of Everton.

Shelvey netted the winner on his return to action for the Magpies’ under-23s at Fulham last week, and is now vying for a place in Rafa Benítez’s team for the weekend visit of the Toffees.

It’s been four months since the 27-year-old last lined up for a first team game but, having recovered from a persistent thigh injury, Shelvey is back in contention – and he sat down with UNITED this week to reflect on a testing campaign so far.

“It’s the little day-to-day things – you see them outside on the training pitch and you’re in the physio room, just sitting around, getting the treatment,” said Shelvey. “Honestly, there’s nothing worse for a footballer. But sometimes you have to do it, and I’ve done that now. It looks to be behind me.”

As well as the exclusive, eight-page interview with Shelvey – who is featured on the front cover – there are also interviews with Scottish winger John Connelly, who played for both Everton and the Magpies, and youngster Ryan Barrett, who is profiled in High Hopes.

Full back DeAndre Yedlin fields some bizarre questions in the popular regular feature Toon Tombola, while Sky Sports’ Pete Graves gives us his take on the state of play at St. James’ Park.

There’s also plenty of historical content to enjoy, as well as regular columns from manager Rafa Benítez and captain Jamaal Lascelles.

UNITED is priced at £3, and is available around the ground or online here.
