Summer signing Sandro Tonali has become an instant hit on Tyneside, with his performances this month earning the Italian the Sela Player of the Month award for August

Tonali, who joined United from AC Milan, made the dream start to Premier League life, scoring after just six minutes when he latched onto Anthony Gordon's cross to open the scoring in the 5-1 win over Aston Villa on the opening day of the campaign.

It was a dream debut for the Italian international as he experienced a Premier League game at St. James' Park for the first time - an occasion which, he admitted, will live long in his memory.

He told nufc.co.uk: "The first time at St. James' Park was really special for me - the start of the game, scoring, the noise - everything.

"Everybody told me about the stadium and how special it is. Now I have played there I want to keep giving my best for my team-mates and the fans, who are incredible."

Tonali has started all three of the Magpies' opening games this season in the Premier League and he is enjoying life in the English top-flight.

"The Premier League is special," he added. "It is a quick league with great quality in every side and I am looking forward to competing in this league."

Voting for the Sela Player of the Month takes place after every match in the club's post-match email.
