The Lancashire official was one of four officials added to the Select Group 1 of English top-flight referees during the 2021/22 campaign - just a year prior to be added to the Select Group 2 list.

The former PE teacher was the man in the middle for Newcastle United's Emirates FA Cup defeat at the hands of League One side Cambridge United last term, handing out two yellow cards during the third round tie in January, booking no Newcastle players.

Born in Penwortham, he began refereeing as a teenager in the local leagues in Preston after being inspired by his dad, Graham, who retired in 2020/21 after taking charge of 588 Football League games.

In the five games Salisbury has officiated so far this season, across the Premier League, Championship and EFL Cup, he has dished out a total of 20 yellow cards but is yet to show a red card.
