United lost 2-1 to Mauricio Pochettino’s side on Saturday, with England international Dele Alli’s header settling a closely-fought encounter at St. James’ Park.

Rondón – who joined the Magpies on loan from West Bromwich Albion a week ago – came on for his debut with half an hour to play, and very nearly got off to the perfect start, only to see a deflected effort come back off the woodwork five minutes from time.

Nevertheless, the Venezuelan was encouraged by Newcastle’s creativity in the final third, and he is aiming for nothing less than victory as they look to bounce back at the first time of asking against Neil Warnock’s newly-promoted Bluebirds.

“It was a shame to lose at home. (It would have been) an important three points for us, but the team played really, really well,” he told nufc.co.uk. “We created chances, which is important for everyone, and we have to keep going – it is the only way. The season has just started and we have to look at the next game.

“We shoot (against) the post twice, but it was not to be for us, which is a shame. But the important thing is to create chances, and we have to keep that going.

“We know that Cardiff are promoted this season, and it is a difficult league for everyone – all of the teams have spent a lot of money to make a good team for the season. It will be difficult, but we just have to think about us – that is more important for the team. It is away, but we just have to think about the win - that is the only way.”

Rondón wasn’t the only debutant involved for the Magpies against Tottenham, with Japanese forward Yoshinori Mutō also coming on for his United bow after the break.

Both players took to the field to rapturous applause from the Geordie faithful, something Rondón is hopeful he can repay as he looks to make himself at home on Tyneside.

“We came onto the pitch, it was open, and we just tried to help the team and score goals, of course. The (atmosphere) when I came on was very nice – it was very nice for me,” he said. “I was very happy, and proud to make my debut. It was a pleasure, and I have to keep going to help the team.

“Settling is a difficult process – you have to find a house, and get kids settled in the schools, but I hope it can be quick. It is a good move for me and I am very happy.”
