The game will be the Magpies’ fifth in just two weeks, with a crucial Premier League clash at home to Swansea City to follow seven days later.

Last year, a largely inexperienced Newcastle XI were knocked out of the competition by League One side Oxford United in the Fourth Round, a stage the Magpies have failed to progress beyond since 2006.

But, with a relatively lighter fixture schedule on the horizon, Benítez does not expect a repeat against Nathan Jones’ Hatters tomorrow.

“I think we will have a strong team, because we play one game this week, one game next week, so we can try to put out a team that – for me – will be enough to win the game,” he said.

“I think we have experienced in the cup competitions in England that any game is so difficult that you cannot go into any game with overconfidence so we will try to play a strong team, do well, try to win and go through. We want to win and we want to progress.”

On the subject of United fans’ frustrations at their side’s FA Cup exploits in recent years, the Spaniard added: “I understand, because everybody wants to win and win trophies, but the reality is that we are where we are. We will try to win this game and see if we can progress, and after that it depends on what is going on and the players available in each moment.

“It is not the same when you play two games a week when you play one a week, so we will try to manage in the best way possible to go through as far as we can.”

Saturday’s opponents currently lead the way in League Two, four points clear of Kevin Nolan’s Notts County, and will be backed by more than 7,000 supporters at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

“We are playing against a good team – well-organised, with a lot of confidence and we cannot underestimate them,” Benítez said. “They have a lot of support from their fans and at the same time they are doing well. They are scoring goals, are top of the league, and the fans will be happy if they see a good game tomorrow. But, hopefully our fans will be more delighted at the end.”
