Lee Probert will referee Newcastle United’s game against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Premier League clash at St. James’ Park will be just the second time 46-year-old Probert has taken charge of a Magpies fixture this term, with the Wiltshire official having overseen the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in September.

In all, Probert has refereed nine games so far this season, taking in matches across the Premier League, League One and the Championship. He has dished out a total of 33 yellow cards, while the only game in which he didn’t brandish a booking or a red card was United’s loss to the Gunners at St. James’ Park.

He has, though, issued three red cards this term, with two of them coming in Bournemouth’s 2-2 home draw with Everton in August. On that occasion, Adam Smith and Richarlison were dismissed.

It will be just the third time Probert has officiated in a Magpies game over the past two seasons, with the 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion in November 2017 his other appointment.

He will be assisted by Simon Beck and Andy Garratt on Saturday, while Craig Pawson will be the fourth official.
