The 21-year-old, who is set to spend the rest of the campaign on loan at Home Park, has excelled at the heart of Argyle’s backline this term and is an ever-present for Ryan Lowe’s men.
Watts’ form last month has seen him recognised along with five other players from the third tier, with the centre half netting once in his side’s 4-3 win over Lincoln City and helping the Pilgrims secure an unbeaten month.
Watts – who made his Premier League debut for the Magpies against Liverpool on the final day of last season – is up against Peterborough’s Sammie Szmodics and Jonson Clarke-Harris, Sunderland’s Aiden McGeady and Charlie Wyke and Lincoln’s Jorge Grant in the race for the award, which is voted for by supporters.
It has been a fine season for Watts so far, with the youngster having netted three times in 39 games across all competitions for Lowe’s mid-table outfit.
