Gears has not played competitively since February due to pregnancy, but after the birth of her son she is ready to get back to full fitness and resume her career.

Boasting plenty of Championship experience, Gears is the latest addition to Becky Langley's squad which is striving to get promoted from the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division at the end of their inaugural season as a professional outfit.

"It's really exciting and I am just looking forward to getting back into football," Gears told nufc.co.uk upon signing.

"The professional set-up that Newcastle have is a really exciting place to be at the minute, so I am really looking forward to it."

Becky Langley said: "We are thrilled to add Nicki to our ranks. She brings with her a wealth of experience and is keen to drive us forward towards our goals this season.
