Newcastle United Under-18s recorded their second win of pre-season so far on Tuesday afternoon, beating Carlisle United 3-0 at Little Benton.

Dave Watson's side - who earned a 5-1 victory over Fleetwood Town in their opening friendly of 2017/18 last week - proved too strong for their Cumbrian visitors at the Magpies' Academy.

United took the lead after 18 minutes, thanks to an own goal when the ball found its way in having struck the upright, with a Blues defender getting the final touch.

But Darren Edmondson's youngsters responded, and saw an equaliser chalked off just before the half hour mark because of a foul on a Newcastle player.

With the score at 1-0 at half time, Watson introduced a number of substitutes, and it was one of them - Deese Kasinga - who created his team's second of the afternoon. The speedy wideman beat his man on the left and crossed for teenage winger Adam Wilson to fire home and extend the hosts' advantage.

And just after the hour, Newcastle made it three. Kasinga was again involved in the build-up before Kieran Aplin found the top corner in style.

Despite a late Carlisle rally, in which they carved out but were unable to take a number of chances, Watson's side recorded a comfortable win, and will now head to Northern Ireland to take part in the SuperCupNI.
