Magpies handed away draw in last eight

United will travel to the new Brentford Community Stadium for the first time in the week commencing Monday, December 21st after the draw was made on Thursday night.

The Magpies booked their place in the last eight with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory at Newport County on Wednesday evening, after a 1-1 draw in normal time at Rodney Parade. Steve Bruce's side have also beaten Blackburn Rovers (1-0) and Morecambe (7-0) in the second and third round respectively.

Brentford - losing finalists in the Championship play-offs last season - cruised past Fulham in the fourth round, winning 3-0 on Thursday. They had already knocked out Premier League sides Southampton, who they beat 2-0 at St. Mary's, and West Bromwich Albion, who lost 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns. They got past Wycombe Wanderers in the first round, winning 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. This will be their first ever League Cup quarter-final.

United have met Brentford once before the League Cup. A second round tie at St. James' Park in September 2001 ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, before Craig Bellamy scored a hat-trick in extra time to give the Magpies a 4-1 victory.

Former Newcastle man Ivan Toney joined the Bees from Peterborough United in the summer. Brentford moved into their new 17,250-capacity stadium, less than a mile away from their former Griffin Park home, last month.

Further match details will be announced in due course.
