Elmer's Great North Parade was launched across Tyneside last month - with Newcastle United sponsoring one of the colourful sculptures

The free public art trail features 70 elephants in different locations, including the Magpies-themed design outside the club shop at St. James' Park.

The parade follows the success of the Great North Snowdogs Trail in 2016, which featured decorated artworks of the dog from Raymond Briggs' The Snowman and the Snowdog and raised £367,000 for St. Oswald's Hospice when the dogs were auctioned off at the close of the run.

The follow-up idea - this time bringing to life Elmer the Elephant, the popular character from David McKee's children series of books - is set to do the same for the local charity.

And Newcastle United were delighted to sponsor one of the elephants, which will proudly sit outside the stadium for the next few weeks.

'Landmarks', which was created by artist Powder Butterfly, focuses on some of the best-loved and most well-known buildings, monuments and bridges in Newcastle and Gateshead. It is a celebration of the awe-inspiring landmarks that can be found on our doorstep, including St. James' Park.

The sculptures will be on display until Friday, November 1st, before the sculptures go up for auction at Sage Gateshead on Tuesday, November 12th, with money raised again going to the hospice to help run its children and young people's service. Find out more here.
