The draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup was made on Thursday night

The Magpies travel to the Mazuma Stadium to face the Shrimpers on Wednesday, 23rd September (kick-off 7.45pm BST), with the winners going through to the fourth round.

And whoever comes out on top will face an away trip to Newport or Watford after the draw was made by former England midfielder Lee Hendrie on Thursday night.

The fourth round draw was made on an either/or basis as the round three fixtures will not yet have been completed. This is to help enable the EFL, clubs and broadcasters to plan with additional clarity over a busy period of fixtures.

Ties will be played in the week commencing 28th September.

United have met Watford twice before in the competition - in round two in 1978/79, when the Hornets were 2-1 winners at Vicarage Road, and in a fourth round tie in 2006/07, when the Magpies won 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Newcastle's only previous cup meeting with Newport was in the FA Cup in 1921/22. United were 6-0 winners in a first round tie at St. James' Park.

The Magpies also claimed their record win - 13-0 - against the Welsh club in October 1946. But County won the last of the three previous meetings between the two clubs, a 4-2 victory in June 1947.
