Working with BAFTA award-winning actor and lifelong Magpies fan Kema Kay, PUMA has today launched the kit as part of an inspiring short-form video, entitled #BeatOfNewcastle, which celebrates the club’s proud place as the beating heart of Tyneside.
Reciting a poem as Kema roams the streets of Newcastle-upon-Tyne – St. James’ Park bound – the video captures the emotion of matchday.
Geordie and lifelong Newcastle United fan, Paddy McCann, penned the poem.
Kema Kay, ‘I, Daniel Blake’ actor, commented: "It was an absolute honour to work with both PUMA and Newcastle United on this project, a club and team that I’ve supported since I was a young boy.
"We’re only a few weeks away now and like every other fan here in Newcastle I can’t wait to pull on the new jersey, get back to St. James’ Park and cheer the boys on to another successful start to the season."
The 2018/19 season home shirt design is inspired by classic Newcastle United kits and features a narrower black and white stripe than previous seasons.
The addition of traditional red player names and numbers are a nod to the club’s history and complete the classic design.
Traditional all black shorts and plain white socks compliment the uncomplicated clean look of the new kit.
Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles commented: "I’m buzzing to pull on our new kit for the start of the season. It’s a great home shirt. There’s no prouder moment for any of us than pulling on the black and white stripes and walking out in front of the fans at St. James’ Park. We can’t wait."
