Last season, City won this fixture 3-2 - having lost 6-2 at St. James’ Park earlier in the campaign.

And this term, the Magpies fought back from 3-1 down to beat the East Anglian side 4-3 on Tyneside thanks to Dwight Gayle’s hat-trick.

And Neil, speaking to Norwich City TV, admitted: ”I’ve had some bizarre games against them.

"The game at home last year, we beat them 3-2 which was great at the end. The 6-2 game was the most bizarre game I've been involved in, and then there was the 4-3 game which was a bitter one to take.

"We've got a point to prove to ourselves and everybody else that we can go and be one of the top teams. It was a sore one to take last time; we'll be up for this game.

"They've got one of the best squads in the league but if we're on our game we can beat anyone."

Norwich have been in good form of late and thrashed Nottingham Forest 5-1 at the weekend.

And Neil said: "The players will be confident. They will be pleased with how they performed against Forest.

"Going into the game, we should have every belief that if we play well we can win, and that's a good thing.

"We've been in good form of late, we've scored quite a few goals - the entertainment value for the fans at the weekend was great.

"If we can continue that, then the fans will enjoy their football. It's a snowball effect now; every game gets bigger as the season goes on."
