Sunday's 1-1 opening day draw at London City Lionesses brought mixed emotions for Lia Cataldo, who was happy to take a point home but felt Newcastle United Women could've picked up all three.

United gave a good account of themselves on their FA Women's Championship debut, taking the lead and pushing London City Lionesses all the way to register a first point of the season.

Cataldo formed a solid partnership with Katie Barker down the right and could have got her first assist of the season if it wasn't for a smart Emily Orman save from Shania Hayles.

The 23-year-old has now started all but two competitive games since she joined Newcastle in January - largely on the left-hand side of defence, although she enjoyed being deployed on the right against London City.

"Personally, I think we deserved more than a point," Cataldo admitted post-match.

"We had great chances, especially in the first half, that we could've potentially put away but unfortunately we didn't.

"I found it more comfortable (on the right) and noticed myself getting much higher up the pitch and working well with Katie.

"I thought overall, we played really well and are happy to come away with a point away from home.

"We wanted to put in a good performance and for every player to know they gave everything once they walked off the pitch, and we certainly did that - but there's definitely more to come."

United's players were keen to reward their supporters who made the long trip to Hayes Lane and made themselves heard before a ball was even kicked.

And Cataldo said: "I saw our fans turning up during the warm up and I was just wondering how many are going to be here?

"They're an unmatched set of fans and like I've said before, they make such a difference and are our 12th player out there."
