Fans who are travelling to Newcastle United's home game against Southampton on Saturday are advised to allow extra time for journeys due to a planned Metro line closure south of the Tyne

Nexus, the public body which runs the Metro, is carrying out a programme of track replacement work in Gateshead.

On Saturday there will be no Metro services running between Gateshead Stadium and Hebburn/Brockley Whins.

Extra replacement bus services - 900 and 901 - will be in operation to help fans get into the centre of Newcastle.

Anyone who has got a Magpie Mover pass can use it to travel on any local bus services.

A Nexus spokesman said: "We're sorry if anyone is inconvenienced by our planned modernisation works.

"We try to avoid works clashing with home games but given the scale of the investment we are carrying out this is not always possible for us to do this.

"Fans should plan ahead and make sure they leave enough time to get a replacement bus service into Newcastle."

Metro services north of the Tyne are unaffected.
