Matt Targett takes centre stage for Friday night’s edition of UNITED – the first issue of the club’s official matchday programme for more than a month.

Over the course of an exclusive, eight-page interview, the defender considers how his loan switch from Aston Villa has panned out so far, and also discusses his international ambitions.

Ex-Newcastle and Northern Ireland midfielder David McCreery is the latest former Magpie to take part in Q&A Revisited, in which we bring back to light some of the quick-fire interviews undertaken by United players over the years and then see how many of their answers remain the same in the present day.

Jonjo Shelvey is reunited with The Toon Tombola, discussing the Tyne and Wear Metro, High School Musical and house fires, while Toonament History – the feature in which we take a look back at Newcastle’s connections to football’s two biggest major tournaments – continues with a look at Euro 2008, where the likes of Emre Belözoglu and Jean-Alain Boumsong were involved.

There’s a look ahead to this year’s Rugby League World Cup with the tournament’s director of revenue, Mick Hogan, with the action set to get underway at St. James’ in October when England take on Samoa.

Club Historian Paul Joannou looks at the emergence of the Powell twins, Harry and Rory, in United’s Academy, who could go on to register a Magpies first, all being well. Paul also looks back at the chain of events leading up to Sir John Hall’s takeover of the club in 140 Years of Action.

Further nostalgia comes courtesy of Stan Gate in Programme Matters, with Josh Scott providing this week’s Academy Diary. Elsewhere, we find out a little bit more about Newcastle United Women’s Brooke Cochrane.

And, as always, we’ll have eight pages of coverage on our visitors, Wolves, as well as skipper Jamaal Lascelles’ thoughts ahead of the game and Eddie Howe’s latest set of notes.

If you’re not able to make it on Friday, you can still order your programme online – available on Curtis Sport’s website here.
