Newcastle’s second-string netted three times in the opening 27 minutes of the Division Two clash, courtesy of strikes from Ryan Fraser, Harrison Ashby - making his Magpies debut at under-21 level - and Amadou Diallo before Fin Welch’s brace, either side of Abu Kamara’s penalty, drew the Canaries level at the Little Benton Academy.
However, Miley ensured maximum points for the young Magpies with an impressive first-time strike in the later stages of the contest as the hosts prevailed in a seven-goal thriller on Tyneside to end a ten-game winless streak in the Premier League 2.
The 16-year-old, who made his Newcastle first-team debut during a 5-0 win against Al Hilal in December 2022, told nufc.co.uk: “It was a great win for the team. We had a great start but we dropped off a bit, losing a bit of composure on the ball to allow Norwich back into the game but we picked that up in the second-half and managed to get three points.
“I was pleased with the start - it was the best we could have had and probably our best of the season as it was so positive. We need to keep working on it and make sure we don’t drop off next time, trying not to be complacent.
“We needed to show a lot of character throughout the second-half to keep going and making sure they didn’t score the winning goal.
"I was really pleased to score the winner. I just saw the ball come back to me and I thought I’d shoot. I was buzzing to see it hit the back of the net!"
Newcastle’s under-21 side round off their Premier League 2 campaign for the 2022/23 season with a trip to Derby County, who have lost 18 or their 19 winless matches this term.
Miley, who has represented England at under-17 level, is determined for the young Magpies to kick on from their positive result against Norwich and record back-to-back league wins for the first time since October.
The Stanley-born midfielder added: “We were really pleased to get the win as it was our first one for a while. We now go to Derby next week and we’ll try to end the season on a high with another victory.
“I’ve really enjoyed this season. It’s been great for my development and I’ve learnt a lot during the season, from playing under-21s football to training with the first-team."
