Eddie Howe's side make the trip to the capital seeking a fourth successive Premier League victory before the upcoming international break and this will be the first time Bankes has officiated a fixture involving the Magpies this season.

The Lancashire whistler, promoted to the Select Group 1 of Referees ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, issued his first Premier League red card to former Newcastle loanee Valentino Lazaro during the Magpies' 1-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace in February 2020.

Bankes was the man in the middle for two of Newcastle's English top-flight matches last term, overseeing United's 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux and brandishing three yellow cards, including Fabian Schär.

Promoted to the FIFA refereeing list in 2021, Bankes also took charge of Newcastle's 1-1 draw against West Ham United in January 2023, booking Joelinton and Joe Willock.
