Taylor is one of the most high-profile officials currently operating in the Premier League, having been a staple in the top flight since his debut in 2010.

The 44-year-old, a FIFA-listed whistler for the last decade, has a League Cup final, FA Cup final and a Community Shield appearance on his CV, while he has also taken charge of a UEFA Nations League final in 2021.

Taylor oversaw the 2022 Club World Cup final between Real Madrid and Al-Hilal too, and was also one of six English officials to be selected for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

So far this season, Wythenshawe-born Taylor has only made one trip to Tyneside - for the Magpies' 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in February, in which he dismissed United goalkeeper Nick Pope.
