United welcome Mikel Arteta’s men to Tyneside targeting a fourth successive Premier League victory on home soil but face a Gunners side yet to taste defeat in the English top-flight this term, with Attwell set to officiate his third game involving the Magpies so far this season.

The Nuneaton-born official, who has refereed over 500 professional matches since his first in 2007, was the man in the middle for Newcastle’s 3-1 away defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion in August and booked eight players at the Amex Stadium, including Dan Burn, Fabian Schär, Matt Targett and Anthony Gordon.

The 40-year-old whistler also oversaw Newcastle’s 8-0 away triumph against Sheffield United, handing out a total of four yellow cards but booking no United players during an emphatic victory at Bramall Lane.

In the ten games Attwell has officiated so far this term, he has shown a total of 37 yellow cards and two red cards, controversially sending off Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall during a 3-2 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
