Andre Marriner will referee Newcastle United’s game at Crystal Palace on Sunday (2.15pm kick-off).

It will be the fourth time Marriner has taken charge of a United fixture so far this term. His first appointment came on the opening day of the season, when he sent off Jonjo Shelvey and booked Matt Ritchie, Harry Kane and Ben Davies in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at St. James’ Park.

The Magpies 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion in September was also overseen by the 47-year-old, who booked Jamaal Lascelles and two Seagulls players on that occasion, while Marriner also officiated in the 1-0 loss at home to Manchester City just after Christmas, when Dwight Gayle was cautioned.

So far this campaign, the Birmingham-born referee has shown 67 yellow cards in 23 games across the Premier League, FA Cup, Checkatrade Trophy, Europa League and Champions League, issuing a total of three red cards in that time.

Marriner will be assisted by Simon Beck and Richard West at Selhurst Park on Sunday, and Lee Probert will be the fourth official.
