Peter Beardsley's side will make the short trip to Darlington for a pre-season friendly

The Magpies will travel to The Northern Echo Arena on Monday, 17th July for a 7pm (BST) kick-off.

Darlington played at the 25,000-seater stadium between 2003 and 2012, but have since moved to a smaller ground at Blackwell Meadows. Last season they finished fifth in the Vanarama National League North.

The Arena is now home to the Darlington Mowden Park rugby side.

Last summer, United's second-string travelled to the same stadium and ran out 5-1 winners with Haris Vuckic, Ivan Toney, Callum Roberts, Lubo Satka and Sean Longstaff on target.

Ticket details will be confirmed in due course.

Newcastle's under-23s will be also be taking part in the Whitby Town Challenge Cup between Thursday, 27th July and Saturday, 29th July. The competition will include the hosts, Celtic, AZ Alkmaar and the Magpies and tickets can be purchased here.
