The Magpies booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory at Newport County on Wednesday evening.
Jonjo Shelvey’s late equaliser took the game to spot-kicks after Tristan Abrahams had put the Welsh side in front early on at Rodney Parade.
But after Mark Gillespie saved from Ryan Taylor and Brandon Cooper blazed over in the shoot-out, United prevailed, sealing their last-eight berth.
And they will find out who they will face next when the draw is made by former England midfielder Jamie Redknapp after Thursday night’s fourth round tie between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield, live on Sky Sports.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are the five names already in the hat, with either Brentford or Fulham, Aston Villa or Stoke City and Liverpool or Arsenal set to join them.
The Magpies last reached the quarter-final stage in 2016, where they were beaten on penalties at Hull City.
