The Magpies have added Recite Me - a cutting-edge Cloud based web accessibility and language solution - to nufc.co.uk.
The software includes text-to speech functionality, dyslexia software, an interactive dictionary, a translation tool with over 100 languages and many other features, making content accessible to more people than ever before. Supporters can use the functionality by visiting the Accessibility section at www.nufc.co.uk/accessibility and enabling Recite Me.
Ross Linnett, Recite Me founder and CEO, said: "One in five people in the UK have a disability, but sport isn't always accessible to people with disabilities.
"So it's brilliant to see Newcastle United taking positive action and adding Recite Me's web accessibility and language software to nufc.co.uk. "Recite Me will help fans with access needs to use the site, whether they want to find out about match tickets, or read the latest team and club news, or anything else. "Both local Newcastle United fans and those across the world will now benefit from increased digital accessibility and inclusion."
Mr. Linnett was diagnosed with dyslexia as an adult whilst studying at university and founded Recite Me because traditional 'assistive technology' was limited to only one computer. He added: "Recite Me is a Gateshead based start-up turned growing multinational company, and many of our staff are from in and around Newcastle and Gateshead.
"That makes it special for us to see this prestigious local football club add Recite Me to the website.
"Myself and the rest of the Recite Me team sincerely hope Newcastle United fans everywhere enjoy using Recite Me."
Even without Recite Me enabled, the official Newcastle United website already offers a High Contrast version, which alters some of the subtler colours in our palette to ensure readability for all, and has an option for the Dyslexie Font, aimed at making the site easier to read for Dyslexic users through a number of smart techniques.
With Recite Me now live on nufc.co.uk, the club's next goal is to roll the tool out to its booking platform, book.nufc.co.uk.
