United will face Foxes at St. James' Park in League Cup

The draw was made following Tuesday night's first round tie between Salford City and Leeds United at the Peninsula Stadium, and was hosted by Sky Sports presenter Laura Woods.

Former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville picked out ball number five to pair United against the Foxes, who were ball number four and were drawn by ex-Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

The draw was unseeded but regionalised into North and South sections and saw the 13 Premier League clubs not involved in European competition, as well as Cardiff City and Fulham, join the 35 first round winners in the hat.

Newcastle have never played Leicester before in the League Cup.

United will be hoping to improve on their recent performance in this competition under Steve Bruce; the Magpies were knocked out by Nottingham Forest at the second round stage in each of the last two seasons.

Newcastle reached the quarter-finals in 2016/17 but lost to Hull City on penalties.
