Young midfielder agrees to stay with Blackpool for rest of the season

The 20-year-old midfielder has scored six goals - most recently against Scunthorpe on Boxing Day - and created several more for the Tangerines during the first half of the campaign, and has made 23 League One appearances so far.

His loan was due to expire after this weekend's game at Oxford but manager Gary Bowyer has moved quickly to keep the player at Bloomfield Road for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle-born Longstaff spent the second half of last term with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, scoring three times in 16 league starts.

Speaking to Blackpool's official website, Bowyer said: "I'm delighted that we've been able to get the deal done, and I'd like to thank Newcastle for allowing Sean to continue his development with us. He's benefitting from playing week in, week out and he's got six goals, which is an incredible return for someone of his age."

Longstaff added: "I've enjoyed my time here so far. I've played or been a part of pretty much every game apart from two, I think. It's been perfect for me, I've settled in really well, all the lads are great and all the staff have been great with me."
