The Newcastle United youngster joined the Chairboys on loan during the January transfer window, and will spend the rest of the campaign with Gareth Ainsworth’s side.
Young has had to be patient and wait for an opportunity to impress, though, and finally got a very brief chance to when he replaced Anis Mehmeti in added time at the Mornflake Stadium.
Wycombe were already 2-1 up by then thanks to goals from Sam Vokes and Lewis Wing, and after Young’s introduction Wing’s second of the afternoon made it three in the dying moments.
The 21-year-old made five appearances during a loan spell at League Two side Tranmere Rovers last term, and will hope to feature more regularly for Ainsworth’s men as they chase promotion from League One in the final few months of this season.
Elsewhere, there were run-outs for two other promising youngsters, Joe White and Elliot Anderson, in League Two.
White entered the fray for the final 15 minutes of Hartlepool United’s 2-1 win at Harrogate Town this weekend, helping Graeme Lee’s men maintain their encouraging recent form.
And Anderson got a full 90-minute outing under his belt for Bristol Rovers, but couldn’t prevent Joey Barton’s men from suffering a 1-0 reverse at Newport County.
In Scotland, Oisin McEntee had an afternoon to forget as Greenock Morton were beaten 3-0 by Queen of the South. The Irish centre half played the full 90 minutes of that defeat to the Scottish Championship’s bottom club.
Another Irishman, Jeff Hendrick, also got 90 minutes at the weekend, but his play-off chasing Queens Park Rangers side were beaten 2-1 by Cardiff City in the Championship.
Meanwhile, a number of Magpies loanees didn’t make it off the bench at the weekend, with Freddie Woodman watching Bournemouth’s 2-1 defeat to Preston from the sidelines. Kell Watts’ Wigan beat AFC Wimbledon 1-0 without him playing any part, and Matthew Bondswell’s Shrewsbury Town drew 0-0 with Cambridge United as he remained among the substitutes.
