Two Magpies came up against each other on Tuesday night, as Sammy Ameobi's Bolton Wanderers beat Jamie Sterry's Coventry City 1-0.

Winger Ameobi plyed 74 minutes at the Macron Stadium before being substituted, while full back Sterry played the full match and picked up a booking as Zak Clough's strike won it for the hosts.

Slovenian midfielder Haris Vuckic started for Bradford City against Northampton Town, and had a hand in James Hanson's winning goal as the Bantams won 1-0. He was replaced by Felipe Morais after 66 minutes.

But Ivan Toney's Shrewsbury Town slipped to the bottom of League One after their 3-0 defeat to Fleetwood Town, though the 20-year-old played the full 90 minutes at Highbury Stadium.

In League Two, Macaulay Gillesphey was an unused substitute in Carlisle United's 2-2 draw at Grimsby Town, while Tom Heardman didn't make the Hartlepool United squad for their 2-0 home win over Accrington Stanley.

And Scotland Under-21 international Kyle Cameron also missed out on Newport County's 1-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers at Rodney Parade.

But winger Alex Gilliead earned a start for Luton Town, but was withdrawn on 58 minutes as the Hatters were beaten 3-1 by Portsmouth at Kenilworth Road.

And teenage goalkeeper Paul Woolston wasn't involved as Blyth Spartans recorded a 11-1 victory over Bedlington Terriers in the Northumberland Senior Cup, while Dutch midfielder Siem de Jong didn't make it off the bench in PSV Eindhoven's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.
