Newcastle United duo Jacob Murphy and Freddie Woodman both made an impression for their Championship loan clubs on Saturday, with Murphy netting for Sheffield Wednesday and Woodman saving a penalty for Swansea.

Winger Murphy, who joined the Owls until the end of the season on transfer deadline day, started against Barnsley at Hillsborough and took barely 100 seconds to mark his debut with a goal as he steered home their opener.

The 24-year-old’s run also helped create his side’s second, which was scored by Steven Fletcher, before Murphy was replaced with quarter of an hour remaining of the 2-0 win.

Woodman, meanwhile, has started the season as the Swans’ first choice goalkeeper, and helped the Welsh outfit take a point from their game at Derby County at the weekend.

The England Under-21 international dived to his left to keep out Martyn Waghorn’s first half spot-kick, preserving his clean sheet in the process and continuing his promising start to his season-long loan at the Liberty Stadium.

Midfielder Dan Barlaser started for Rotherham United as the Millers were beaten 2-0 by Lincoln City in League One.

Barlaser was replaced in the second half at the New York Stadium, while defender Liam Gibson missed out on League Two Grimsby Town’s 1-1 draw with Bradford City through injury.

And young stopper Nathan Harker endured a difficult afternoon between the sticks, as Blyth Spartans were beaten 3-0 at Alfreton Town in the National League North.
