Victory temporarily took the Cottagers above Cardiff City and into second in the Championship, only for the Bluebirds to reclaim the initiative in the promotion race by beating Nottingham Forest on Saturday – for whom Jack Colback played all 90 minutes.

In League One, Ivan Toney was involved for the bulk of Scunthorpe United’s 1-0 win over Walsall – a result which kept the Iron in a play-off spot. Bradford City remain in with a faint chance of a top-six place themselves, and Alex Gilliead played the entirety of the Bantams’ 1-1 draw at Rochdale.

Scunthorpe’s victory ended any hopes Blackpool may have had of securing back-to-back promotions, though the Tangerines – featuring Sean Longstaff – continued their winning run by cruising past Gillingham at Priestfield.

In Scotland, Stuart Findlay started and finished Kilmarnock’s 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen at Rugby Park – their first loss since January. Further afield, Henri Saivet was also in action over the weekend, helping Sivasspor to a 2-0 win at Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig.

There was disappointment for Matz Sels, though, with Anderlecht losing 2-1 to Genk in the Belgian First Division A – their third reverse in five since the division’s split.
