Two of Newcastle United's young forwards were on target for their loan clubs in the first round of fixtures over the Easter period.

Adam Armstrong was on target for Barnsley in their Sky Bet Championship clash at Wigan Athletic, but the Tykes suffered a 3-2 defeat at the DW Stadium on Thursday.

But Ivan Toney's Scunthorpe United fared better at MK Dons, as the 21-year-old's 11th strike of the campaign earned them a 1-0 League One win on Friday - their first away win since January.

Winger Alex Gilliead missed out on Bradford City's 1-0 win over Oxford, while League Two side Carlisle United drew 1-1 at Hartlepool United, though defender Macaulay Gillesphey was an unused substitute.

North of the border, goalkeeper Freddie Woodman kept a clean sheet as Kilmarnock were held to a 0-0 draw against Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

Fellow Magpies youngsters Callum Roberts and Sean Longstaff also started for Killie at Rugby Park, but were withdrawn after 82 and 70 minutes respectively.
