There were contrasting fortunes for Kyle Cameron and Macaulay Gillesphey as Carlisle United's long unbeaten stretch came to a surprise end at Newport County on Saturday.

The Cumbrians - who headed into the clash as the only side in the EFL yet to taste defeat this season - slipped to a 2-0 reverse at Rodney Parade, with Gillesphey completing all 90 minutes.

It was a first Sky Bet League Two start for the 20-year-old in almost a month, counterpart Cameron taken off just after the hour-mark as Graham Westley's side continued their recent resurgence.

Elsewhere in the fourth tier, Alex Gilliead was withdrawn after 87 minutes as Luton Town edged out Accrington Stanley at Kenilworth Road.

The winger came close to breaking the deadlock in a closely-fought first half, Cameron McGeehan netting the only goal of the game for the Hatters with a quarter of an hour remaining.

Tom Heardman did not feature as Hartlepool United's long wait for a home victory finally came to an end against Cheltenham Town.

In League One, Ivan Toney played the whole game as Shrewsbury Town moved off the bottom of the table with a 2-0 win at home to Oxford United.

In contrast, Jamie Sterry endured a more frustrating afternoon, the defender starting and finishing Coventry City's 1-0 defeat to Scunthorpe United at the Ricoh Arena.

It was a similar story for Sammy Ameobi, as the former England Under-21 international's Bolton Wanderers side lost narrowly at Peterborough United in front of the Sky Sports cameras yesterday.

Ameobi played 85 minutes for Phil Parkinson's charges, who slipped to fourth in the table after their defeat at London Road.

Haris Vuckic, meanwhile, missed out on Bradford City's thumping win over Rochdale on Saturday with a foot injury.

In the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy, young goalkeeper Paul Woolston made his second start for Blyth Spartans as Alun Armstrong's side saw off Halesowen Town by the odd goal in seven at Croft Park.

Woolston could return to action as quickly as tomorrow night, with Blyth set to visit Shaw Lane in the Doodson Sports Cup. OUT ON LOAN
