Elliot Anderson scored his first career goal as Bristol Rovers won 4-0 at Stevenage on Saturday

The 19-year-old continues to go from strength to strength under former Magpie Joey Barton, now in charge at the Memorial Stadium, and having claimed an assist against Sutton United in midweek, he went one better at the weekend.

He had already been outstanding in a wet and windy first half where he'd already nearly netted twice, seeing one effort tipped over the bar and another - after a great run - flashing just wide.

But in the 50th minute came a moment the Little Benton Academy product will never forget as Sam Nicholson back-heeled the ball into his path and Anderson fired home.

And towards the end of an excellent victory, there was still time for the teenager to pick up his first ever senior yellow card.

Elsewhere in League Two, Joe White started and played for the opening 69 minutes of Hartlepool's home draw with Sutton, and Matty Longstaff played 83 minutes for Mansfield Town as they drew 1-1 with Newport County.

Meanwhile Jeff Hendrick started and finished Queens Park Rangers' 1-1 draw with Hull City in the Championship and in Scotland, Oisín McEntee played the whole game for Morton as they lost 1-0 to Hamilton Academical.

Kell Watts - who signed a new contract with Newcastle this week - was an unused substitute as Wigan drew 1-1 with League One leaders Rotherham on Friday night.

Freddie Woodman's Bournemouth saw their home clash with Nottingham Forest fall victim to the weather on Friday, while Matt Bondwell's Shrewsbury were also without a game as their fixture with Morecambe on Saturday was postponed.
