Sean Longstaff played his part in Blackpool’s 3-1 win at Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night, setting up the final goal in their clash at Home Park.
Longstaff – who didn’t feature in the Tangerines’ 0-0 draw at Scunthorpe United on Saturday – came off the bench just before the hour and teed up Nathan Delfouneso to seal the win for Gary Bowyer’s men, who are now fifth in the third tier.
And Ivan Toney’s Wigan Athletic are now just behind them in sixth place in the table, after their 3-0 win at Charlton.
Toney played the last quarter of an hour at The Valley – picking up a yellow card – having been replaced after an hour of the Latics’ 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury at the weekend.
In the Championship, Adam Armstrong – an unused substitute in Bolton’s 3-0 loss to Middlesbrough on Saturday – played the first 67 minutes of their game against Sheffield United in midweek, but couldn’t prevent the Trotters from slipping to a 1-0 defeat.
Further afield, Moroccan defender Achraf Lazaar made his Benevento bow as a 67th-minute substitute during their 1-0 defeat at home to Torino in Serie A on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Matz Sels was part of the Anderlecht team who were beaten 3-0 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night, having been an unused substitute during his team’s 3-2 win over Lokeren last Friday.
But fellow keeper Tim Krul wasn’t involved for Brighton & Hove Albion, as they beat West Brom 3-1 on Saturday.
In Scotland, defender Stuart Findlay played the full 90 minutes as Kilmarnock were beaten 2-0 at Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
