Newcastle United Women boss Becky Langley wants to see a "sea of black and white" in the stands when her side head to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest Women on Sunday (kick-off 2pm GMT)

The Magpies travel to Forest this weekend for an eye-catching FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division fixture against last season's league champions, who currently sit fourth in the table - four points and two places behind unbeaten United.

And ahead of the game, Langley expressed her desire for the Geordies to pack the stands in the historic arena.

"It will be absolutely fantastic," she told nufc.co.uk.

"If we can get as many fans in that away end as possible and just have that sea of black and white in a major ground I think it will be brilliant. It makes the atmosphere more exciting.

"Previously, when we played Bradford at Valley Parade, the crowd were mixed in and it is nice to look and see a section of black and white."

The match against Forest holds extra meaning for Langley and some of her staff, with the Newcastle manager having previously worked for their youth system and United first-team coach Andy Cook – as well as some other members of the Magpies' backroom staff - having also worked with Sunday's hosts.

Langley says her staff and players are appreciative of the opportunity to play in one of England's most iconic locations, and are looking forward to what is set to be another historic day for the Magpies.

"For me personally, I like going back to Nottingham," she said.

"I worked there for a few years with the boys team and it is my second time there as I was working with their under-18s when they played their FA Youth Cup games at the City Ground.

"I am looking forward to going back. It's got a nice, old feel to the stadium with the Brian Clough Stand so I am really excited to go back there and we are looking forward to playing in front of the fans there as well."
