England under-23 international Isabella Sibley insists she's 'fitter and stronger' than she's ever been after putting an anterior cruciate ligament injury behind her to join Newcastle United Women on loan for the 2024-25 season.

She underwent successful surgery in December 2022 before returning after almost a year out of action to help Crystal Palace lift the Women's Championship title last term.

The 24-year-old winger signed a new deal with Palace last September, but has linked up with Becky Langley's Magpies for their first campaign in the second tier following promotion.

And she believes Newcastle is 'the club to be at' after joining fellow summer signings like 69-time England international Demi Stokes and Northern Ireland's all-time record goalscorer Rachel Furness at Kingston Park.

"Tier three to the Championship is quite a big jump," said Sibley, who started out at Chelsea's academy before signing professionally with Crystal Palace in January 2022 following four seasons in the US with West Virginia Mountaineers.

"I think it's one of the most competitive leagues in the whole of Europe - you get many weekends where you just don't know what the outcome is going to be, and it's good to bring that experience.

"But I think the girls are going to be absolutely class and it's going to be a great season ahead.

"You've got Demi, who's just off the back of the Euros, then you look at Rachel Furness' career as well, and a couple of others who are experienced in the Championship.

"It's promising and it's exciting to get going and gelling together, because it seems like a family here already."

Sibley has represented England at various youth levels and made her under-23 debut for the Lionesses against the Netherlands weeks before suffering her ACL injury.

"It's a shame it's so predominant in the women's game," said the Uxbridge-born wide player. "It happens a lot and when I did it, a lot of girls were getting injured at that time.

"It was tough being out for 11 months and I'm back now, fitter and stronger than I've ever been, and I'm itching to get back playing. And I don't think there's a better team to do that than Newcastle at the moment.

"I'm really excited for that first game against London City, to get going and hopefully achieve something big with Newcastle this season.

"On and off the pitch, I just try and bring as much energy as I can. I do anything for the badge that I'm playing with and I'm excited to bring all that I've got and be part of the family.

"I remember looking on Twitter and seeing more than 28,000 at St. James' Park; you didn't even get that last year in the Championship and only a couple in the WSL (Women's Super League).

"And even the home games at Kingston Park, you're getting 4,000 to 5,000 every game and even going up to 7,000, so for the women's game I think this is the club to be at with the growth of it all.

"I know a couple of the girls - we've got a couple of southerners, so we're going to get used to the Geordie accent quickly!

"Everyone's been so welcoming and I think I'm going to enjoy it up here a lot."
