Isaac Hayden Makes England Under-21 Debut

The midfielder - who had previously represented his country at every level from under-16 up to under-20 - was named in Aidy Boothroyd's starting XI for the European Under-21 Championships qualifying match at Walsall's Banks's Stadium.

And he played the whole match as goals from John Swift, Tammy Abraham (2), Josh Onomah and Duncan Watmore gave England the perfect end to their group campaign.

The Championship finals will be held in Poland next summer. However, Scotland won't be there as they lost 2-0 to Macedonia in Skopje. Kyle Cameron played the full match and will have benefitted from the experience of playing in front of a crowd of more than 20,000 as Macedonia achieved qualification for the Championships thanks to their victory.

And it was a disappointing evening for Scotland at senior level too, as the Tartan Army lost 3-0 at home to Slovakia. Grant Hanley played the whole game while Matt Ritchie started but was replaced in the 64th minute.

Slovakia's under-21s, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Turkey in Alanya. Lubo Satka played the whole match and, with his side having qualified for next summer's finals, the elegant defender will hope to be involved in Poland.

Michael Newberry was an unused substitute for Northern Ireland under-21s as they were beaten 3-0 by France at Windsor Park.

Elsewhere, Christian Atsu started for Ghana as they drew 1-1 with South Africa in an international friendly, DeAndre Yedlin played the full 90 minutes for the USA in a 1-1 draw with New Zealand, while Achraf Lazaar watched Morocco's 4-0 friendly win over Canada from the bench.
